Tseng Seeks Third Major Under Gilchrist, Others Seek First

World No. 1 Yani Tseng seeks her third major in just two years working with coach Gary Gilchrist, but she isn’t the only Gilchrist-coached pro feeling good going into the Wegman’s LPGA Championship.

Tseng won two majors in 2010 with Gilchrist – the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Ricoh Women’s British Open – and was in contention to grab her third (fourth overall) earlier in the year at Nabisco when she finished second. Since the beginning of 2010, Tseng has won 10 times worldwide.

Morgan Pressel and Karen Stupples are two of those with a great shot this week. Pressel tied for third behind Tseng at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, while Stupples has a T9, a T17, a T11 and a T28 in her last four starts. Both already have majors to their credit as well. Stupples won the 2004 Women’s British Open and Pressel won the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Meanwhile, Shanshan Feng tied for eighth two weeks ago at the State Farm LPGA Classic and had a share of the lead after day two. Not to mention Sophie Gustafson, Nicole Hage, Alison Walshe and Reilley Rankin have all had great stretches of golf coming into the Rochester, N.Y. event.
