GGGA student Mai Dechathipat has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at Auburn University in 2015.
Making way of Thailand, Dechathipat, a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, has been a highly-touted recruit and is currently ranked No. 11 (No. 28 overall) in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings among junior golfers for the class of 2015.
“I chose Auburn because I believe and trust that both coach Pratt and coach Evans can improve me as a person and in my golf game to help me reach my dreams,” Dechathipat said. “Auburn had the best facility with more than 3 courses that I can play anytime and a perfect back range for me to work on pitching and short game peacefully. I also believe that their program, including physically, mentally and academically can take me to where I want to go because I would have all the help in the world.
“The environment is really nice, clean and safe, the campus is new and I know i will have a great time there.”
Dechathipat visited four schools including Duke University and the University of Florida. At Auburn, she will join GGGA alumnus Jamie Yun
“I want to have my college experience there and become an All-American,” Dechathipat said of her goals at Auburn. “After college golf, I want to play on the LPGA and be top 3 player of the world.”
At just 13 years old, Dechathipat left her family in Thailand to pursue her dreams in golf by attending the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy. Since then, she has never looked back.
Dechathipat qualified for the U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship at just 15 years old and in 2013 was a member of the East Team at the AJGA’s Wyndham Cup, notched two top three finishes in AJGA events, a T8 at the Annika Invitational with a final round 66 along with wins on the IMG and HJGT tours.
