Empower your golf mental game by asking the right questions

Every golfer asks themselves questions about their game. They may occur out loud or privately in the golfer’s mind. Most golfers think that questions are just harmless words with no impact on their mental game or golf game. But this is the furthest thing from the truth.

Every question you ask yourself influences your mental game and golf game.

The questions you ask yourself affect your confidence, concentration, commitment, and most importantly – your golf scores. Yes, that’s right: the questions you ask yourself can affect your golf scores!

How can this be? How could the questions you ask yourself possibly influence your mindset and golfing potential?

The root of it is, if you ask yourself a lousy and negative question, you will get a lousy and negative answer.

For instance, if you ask – What’s wrong with me? You will give yourself a list of things that are wrong with you like: I don’t hit the ball far enough, I can’t putt, and I am not improving as fast as I want to improve and so on.

The list of lousy questions is infinite:

  • Why did I play so lousy?
  • What’s wrong with my golf game?
  • Why can’t I win?

So if lousy questions produce lousy answers, what should we do instead?

At the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, we teach our juniors to: ask better questions!

Ask a good question, get a helpful answer that will improve your thoughts and emotions and help you score to your true golfing potential.

Good news, the list of questions to generate helpful answers is also infinite:

  • What is one thing I did well today?
  • Where do I want to hit this shot?
  • What was my best golf shot today?
  • Who can help me reach my golfing potential?

At GGGA, we teach our students to ask empowering and solution-oriented questions by using the power of HOW. If you are looking for a solution to a challenge, turn your challenge into a how question.

For instance, if you want to improve your scores ask, “How can I improve my scores?”

It’s all about changing the way you allow your mind to approach a situation. Keep asking yourself powerful HOW questions that are empowering and solution oriented and you will soon hear the right answers.
