GGGA student Julian Perico qualified for the PGA Tour Latinoamerica Samsung Open in his home country of Lima, Peru at the incredibly young age of 14.
The young Peruvian native has been working with GGGA coach Bill Schemes before the amateur qualifying round that granted him entry to this prestigious event, which he concluded with an impressive 75 (+3) and 70 (-2).
Julian had just returned from the South American Championship, which was held in Brazil where his home country had lead the tournament throughout the first half of competition, before he entered the PGA Tour Latinoamerica Samsung Open.
Julian also topped the leaderboards at the CJGT Disney World Resort earlier this summer where he received recognition for: most birdies made, par 3 leaderboard, most birdies or better streak, and best scoring average, which elevated him to the No.1 junior in Peru.
“It’s been a fun journey for me to see the great progress Julian’s made in his game over the last year.” remarked Schmedes, Julian’s coach. “He’s held the No. 1 junior ranking in Peru, represented Peru at the South American championship, and now is qualifying as an amateur for professional events. He’s worked very hard on making specific changes in his game that are now allowing him to perform at a much higher level.”
The PGA Latino America Samsung Open begins Oct. 23-26, 2014 at the country club La Planicie in Lima, Peru and will feature a $50,000 purse.
