GGGA Student HH Zhang Wins HJGT Amelia Island Junior Challenge

GGGA full time student Hao Hua “HH” Zhang was unphased.

Zhang, a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, turned in a near flawless final round, while the rest of the field battled unpleasant conditions throughout the weekend at the HJGT Amelia Island Junior Challenge.

After a final round 4-under 68, Zhang of China and a senior at GGGA and Montverde Academy, emerged victorious for a one-shot victory.
Zhang began the final round at Amelia River Country Club T7 at 5 over and a lot of ground to make up.

“During the front 9 of the second round, I felt nervous. I didn’t think I could win,” said Zhang following the final round. “I was surprised when I won.”

Later in the interview he went on to thank his family and coaching staff for his performance this weekend.

The GGGA junior was not only honored with the tournament’s lowest scoring round, but also managed to complete the tournament with the “most birdies made” with a total of 8 birdies through both rounds, most par breakers, 2nd in bogey free spree (tournament total of 14), and a T1 finish in the par 5 leaderboard.

HH was not alone atop the leaderboard, however, as fellow GGGA full time student Chun Hsiang Hsu, of Taiwan, finished the tournament 3rd with a final score of 149. Hsu finished the tournament with a T1 on most pars made (a tournament total of 27 pars).

Also, GGGA full-time student Yash Majmudar, of Singapore, took 5th place with a two-round tournament total of 154.

“I am incredibly proud of all our students performances,” stated Gary Gilchrist. “I look forward to seeing more top finishes in future junior tournaments.”
