GGGA WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE ISABELLA CARDENAS AND ADAM FRIEDMAN
WINNERS AT THE IMG JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT AT VICTORIA HILLS GOLF CLUB ON MARCH 12-13, 2016
The Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy had an extremely successful weekend at the IMG Junior Golf Tournament on March 12 and 13. The Victoria Hills Golf Club, a beautiful course located in the quaint college town of Deland, Florida played host to elite junior golfers from around the world. The 18-hole, par 72, Ron Garl designed golf course is surrounded by hundreds of oak hammocks and Augusta pines. Isabella Cardenas, took first for the Gilchrist Golf Academy Girls, heading the Top 5 in the Girl’s 15-18 Division, while Adam Friedman, led the boys with 5 of the Top 6 players representing GGGA in the Boy’s 15-18 Division.
GGGA’s Isabella Cardenas has been focused on specific aspects of her game this year and it shows in her performance on the links. The 16-year-old recently ran away with the Girls 15-18 Division Championship at the IMG Junior Golf Tournament at Victoria Hills Golf Club in Deland, Florida. “I have been working harder on my short game,” said Isabella, who trains at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Central Florida. Cardenas finished 1st in the second round with a +2, 72/74/Final 146. Originally from Cali, Colombia, Isabella is currently a Sophomore at Montverde Academy scheduled to graduate in 2018. As a student and player at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, Isabella continues to make the headlines. This is Isabella’s second win for the Spring Season of 2016.
The early morning March drizzle did not dampen the spirit of 84+ Junior golfers from playing in the IMG Junior Golf Tournament at Victoria Hills Golf Club this past weekend. Leading the way in the Boys 15-18 Division, Adam Friedman raced out to the front Sunday with -3, 76/69/Final 145 to take 1st Place. Adam shared, “I felt very prepared entering the event at Victoria Hills. It was a humbling experience to compete in a playoff in front of my peers and win my first event of the year. Although I was the individual who won, it was a total team effort. I would like to thank Grant Balcke, Skylar Jewel, Trevor Hypolite, and of course Gary Gilchrist for helping me get to this point.”
Adam has been with the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy for the last several seasons and has won several tournaments throughout the past year. Friedman is in his last year at GGGA and will be missed next year. We look forward to watching Adam as he pursues his interest in golf into the collegiate arena.
Once again the junior golfers in Lake County have demonstrated skills not all aspiring golfers have. The weather was perfect for Nicole Lu, a 10th-grader from Montverde Academy, to make her presence known on the greens. Nicole attends the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Clermont and was one of 17 players nationally to compete in the annual IMG Junior Golf Tournament on March 12 and 13 at Victoria Hills Golf Club, a beautiful course located in the quaint college town of Deland, Florida. Nicole finished up on Sunday with a +3, 76/75/Final 151 to bring home the “Runner Up” trophy and bragging rights until the next competitive tournament comes around. Good Job Nicole!
Jordan Cornelius, age 16 is a sophomore at Montverde Academy in Clermont. She trains full time at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy and has been having quite a Spring Semester on the golf course! Jordan, who will be a junior at Montverde Academy this fall, claimed Third Place last weekend in the IMG Junior Golf Tournament at Victoria Hills Golf Club. She finished up the final round on Sunday with a +5, 77/77/Final 154. Jordan plans an increased summer schedule and hopes to add a few more tournament wins to that schedule. For right now, third place is a move in the right direction. Congratulations!
Alberto Uriach, an 18 year old from Barcelona, Spain has captured 3rd Place in the IMG Junior Golf Tournament at Victoria Hills Golf Club while scoring a +2, 72/74/Final 146. Uriach, who is a Post Graduate (PG) at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, has worked hard and developed a solid golf game. Keep up the good work Alberto!
