GGGA Students sweep competition at 2018 IMG Junior Golf Tour Championship

IMG JGT Tour Championship play wrapped up this past weekend, and students from the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy clearly played to win.  Among the many standout players that represented GGGA this past weekend, were Pyae “Kenneth” Phyo Thu, and Thin-Wai Khaing — turning in spectacular performances that secured both of the coveted 2018 IMG Junior Tour Player of the Year titles.  Pyae “Kenneth” Phyo Thu from Mandalay, Myanmar, shot -5 under total to win the boys’ championship, while Thin-Wai Khaing from Yangon, Myanmar took home the 2018 IMG Junior Tour Player of the Year in the girl’s division.

Several other GGGA students finished strong, embodying the skill, talent, and dedication for which our academy is known:  In the boys division, Ugen Dorji from Thimphu, Bhutan and Alexander Lue from Longpont-sur-Orge, France shot -2 total for T3 finish, Diego Buttironi from Leffe, Italy finished at-1 for T6, and Junfan  “Kerry” Wang from Shandong, China finished at E for a T8 finish. On the girls’ side, Nicole Lu from Taipei, Taiwan finished T3 at +1 and Maika Llarena Cervantes from Pueblo, Mexico and Arantza Armas Stenner from Durango, Mexico both finished at T8 (+4).

The two Player of the Year titles increases our tally of student wins since 2008 to a whopping 254, truly exemplifying our passion for golf and the art of coaching at GGGA. Finding joy in the process and appreciation of the journey is not always easy for junior golfers, but we believe our approach is what builds champions for life, and our students are the proof.  Congratulations to all of our students for truly playing like champions this weekend–we are so proud of you!
