GGGA Student Maxime Blandin in 2nd at AJGA Puerto Rico

Maxime Blandin is just one back of chance at playing on the PGA Tour.

Blandin, a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, turned in a 2-under 70 Saturday in the first round of the AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Open at Trump International Golf Club. The soon-to-be SMU Mustang trails George Cunningham and is in a three-way tie for second after carding five birdies on his round.

The winner is not only crowned the champion but also get’s an exemption into the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open.

At the inaugural event last year, GGGA students swiped both the boy’s and girl’s titles. Jason Roets, who is now a freshman at the University of North Texas, took the boy’s title and Monifa Sealy, who plays for the University of Central Florida, won the girl’s division.

Roets made his PGA Tour debut following his win and missed the cut just by three.

Blandin is one of 12 GGGA students in the field.
