GGGA student Caitlin Gilchrist wins HJGT Tampa Bay Jr Open

GGGA student Caitlin Gilchrist notched for first HJGT win Sunday at the Tampa Bay Junior Open, but the battle for the Girls Division came down to the very end.

After posting a 77 in the first round at Saddlebrook Resort Saturday, Gilchrist, a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at GGGA, found herself trailing Jordan Wolf by two going into Sunday’s final round.

Wolf got off to a solid start, playing the first four holes at 1 under with a birdie at No. 2. Gilchrist was still just a few shots back early on but quickly made up the deficit with birdies at Nos. 6 and 7 and was one ahead at the turn. Gilchrist then followed with six straight pars and closed with a 2-over 74 as Wolf played the back nine in 3 over, giving Gilchrist the two-shot win.

Over the two days, Gilchrist notched three birdies and 19 pars, finishing the event at 151 with rounds of 77 and 74.

With the win, Gilchrist also received a Florida Golf Tour exemption and an invitation to the HJGT’s 2013 Tour Championship. The top ten finishers in each division also received points towards the Hurricane Cup and end of year honors, including All-HJGT teams and state teams.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event at Saddlebrook Resort was a 36-hole tournament held Sept. 14-15, 2013 in Wesley Chapel, FL.
