GGGA student Yuka Kajiki was out to defend her title.
Kajiki, of Japan, picked up right where she left of last year playing the FCWT when she notched three top 5s in four events. After a 71 Saturday, Kajiki was in perfect position for defending her title at the FCWT at TPC Tampa Bay.
A birdie on No. 1 Sunday got her round off to a solid start as she made the turn in 37 as she did in the first round. Coming in, Kajiki picked up birdies on Nos. 11 and 15 to card a 3-over 74 and finish the event at 3-over 145. Over the two days, Kajiki totaled six birdies, all on different holes, which tied for second most across the boy’s and girl’s divisions.
Kajiki was the only GGGA student to play in the event but wanted to go back to play and defend her title after last year’s win at TPC Tampa when she shot 75-71 for the win.
In 11 career events playing the FCWT, Kajiki has eight top 5 finishes with two wins and two runners-up.
Kajiki, 17, and a 2014 graduate, is a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy and a senior at Montverde Academy, GGGA’s academic partner, and has not yet committed to a college or university to play college golf.
The Future Collegians World Tour junior golf tournament at TPC Tampa Bay was a 36-hole stroke play event Sept. 28-29, 2013.
