GGGA student Sasha Wortelboer signs NLI, commits to UCONN

GGGA student Sasha Wortelboer officially committed to play college golf at the University of Connecticut, signing his National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day Wednesday.

Wortelboer, of Switzerland and who is a student in the Post Graduate Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, will play for the Huskies and attend school in the fall of 2014.

“It’s a big achievement for me,” said Wortelboer, who is 18 years old. “I’m reaching the next phase of my career, and I’m really excited about that.”

The University of Connecticut was an attractive spot for Wortelboer he said.

“The coaches there are amazing, and the team was great towards me.”

Wortelboer joins a growing list of GGGA alumni to have gone on to top notch universities. Notable GGGA alumni include: Morgan Hoffmann (Oklahoma State, now on PGA Tour), Rodolfo Cazauban (University of North Texas, turned pro Summer 2013) Jason Roets (University of North Texas), Nicholas Reach (University of Georgia), Monifa Sealy (UCF), Anna Sofia Bohmer (FSU), Maxime Blandin (SMU) and Jamie Yun (Auburn University).

Wortelboer joined the Post Graduate Program at GGGA in the Fall of 2013 and will also attend in Spring 2014 to prepare for summer and enrolling at UCONN.

The Post Graduate Program at GGGA is specifically tailored to high school post graduates who aspire to play college golf as well as for college graduates who aspire to play on the professional tours. The program utilizes the gap year to prepare students technically, physically and mentally to reach their full potential and excel in college or pro golf. Students in the Post-Graduate Program may enroll for a year, semester or monthly.
