GGGA students Lee, Dechathipat win playoffs at IMG Juliette Falls

Two rounds just weren’t enough to settle who would be the champion of the Boys and Girls Divisions Sunday at the IMG Junior Golf Tour event at Juliette Falls.

GGGA students Tiger Lee, of Hong Kong, and Mai Dechathipat, of Thailand, were each locked in a tie at 3 under after 36 holes.

It took three extra holes for Lee, who is a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at GGGA, and Kaito Onishi to settle the Boys 15-18 Division at Juliette Falls Golf and Country Club in Dunnellon, Fla.

After hitting his shot just off the fairway left on No. 12, Lee has able to knock it close to about 6 feet with Onishi in trouble on the right. Lee, who shot rounds of 69 and 72, went on to make his birdie to claim his second win of the year.

To end 2013, Lee won the FCWT at TPC Sawgrass, a course he claimed previous victory at, the IJGT Major Championship, one of his seven wins as a student at GGGA.

Over in the Girls 15-18 Division, GGGA student Mai Dechathaipat, of Thailand, was able to force a playoff at 3 under as well after carding two birdies and no bogeys on her back nine Sunday.

Dechathipat was able settle her win quickly with a birdie on No. 10 after knocking it tight while Jaravee Boonchant lipped out her birdie try.

For Dechathipat, who is also a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at GGGA, it was also her second win of the year and her fifth win overall as a student at the academy.

Dechathipat carded eight birdies with rounds of 70 and 71.
