GGGA student Adam Friedman emerged as the champion Wednesday at The Borck Junior Golf Tournament at Brooklawn Country Club, winning 4up in the match play final.
After surviving the tournament qualifier stroke play with a total score of 75, Friedman, a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, went to compete against some of Connecticut’s premier junior golfers, including last year’s defending tournament champion Thomas Gannon, who was eliminated by Friedman during the tournament’s semi-final match.
In his first two matches, Friedman didn’t even lose a single hole, highlighting his putting as the difference in the event.
“The putter was the most important factor in my overall success for this tournament,” remarked Friedman, who was able to sink a 70 foot putt on the No. 7 hole during the final match, the courses No.1 handicap hole that features a 610 yard par 5 hole.
In the last 10 holes of the final match, Friedman was able to sink 3 putts from a distance of 25 feet or more, highlighting the consistent and confident play that Friedman displayed throughout the entire tournament, and paved the way to his victory during match play at the Brock.
“Thanks to GGGA, I improved my tournament scores by 7-8 strokes in the last year, which is why I have been so successful during tournament play this summer,” explained Friedman, who was able to birdie the No. 7 three out of four times throughout the tournament and was able to average over 4 birdies per match.
Friedman has been training with GGGA for over a year, and is looking forward to another year of full time junior training.
