GGGA summer camper Julian Perico eclipsed the competition to receive top placement in almost every category for the 13-15 years old division at the CJGT at Walt Disney World Resort Sunday.
After the last putt was sunk, Julian, a 14-year-old student from Peru, received recognition for: most birdies made, par 3 leaderboard, most birdies or better streak, and best scoring average. The young GGGA summer camper finished with a score of even par 144, and was able to overshadow the competition by bringing the final tally to 29 strokes over second place finisher Jarrod Stansell, who finished the 2-day tournament with a total score of 173.
Julian has improved his golf game dramatically with the help of Gary Gilchrist, and GGGA coach Bill Schmedes, who have help rocket this young aspiring Peruvian golfer, helping him boost his national junior ranking from the No.5 spot to No. 1 in his home country.
Even with a total of 7 birdies and 7 bogeys at the end of both rounds, Julian was able to remain steady throughout. His training with GGGA started earlier this year with private lessons that ran for over a month, and continued with another month of elite summer camp training, which helped solidify his game before this tournament.
“It’s great to see the strides he’s made over the last year. He’s a hard worker, and it’s shown in his performances recently,” remarked Schmedes, Perico’s coach. “His recent hardwork and training is taking notice. He even qualified for the South American Amateur, which is being held in Brazil later this year.”
