Team GGGA pro Morgan Hoffmann advanced to the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston next week following a solid performance this past weekend at The Barclays at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, NJ.
“That was awesome,” remarked Hoffmann after he finished the final round with a tournament total of 9 under.
Having grown-up just 10 minutes away from the Ridgewood Country Club, Hoffmann was able to capitalize on that local support and a hot putter, and even managed to finish fourth at the end of the third round with a 5-under round of 66.
The front nine of the final round started strong with a frenzy inducing 36-foot birdie just as Morgan had hoped for, “I set that as a goal before the round – birdie the first hole and I did. I thought I was off to a good round.”
With a quick stumble through the next three holes that netted him 2 bogeys and a failed birdie, Hoffmann recovered, and was able to sink par after par with precision and ease. The crowd almost erupted into mania when Hoffmann nearly aced the par-3 15th, and edged the hole on the 155 yard hole.
The home crowd could have not been more supportive of the Wyckoff native, as they cheered and traversed the course all weekend to support Hoffmann. Hoffmann commanded a crowd throughout the whole weekend that was larger than the tournaments actual winner, Hunter Mahan, and was able to move up to the 72nd position in the FedEx Cup standings after starting 124th, where he was able to just barely qualify for The Barclays.
