GGGA student HH Zhang wins back-to-back HJGT events

GGGA student HH Zhang found himself atop a crowded leaderboard for the second straight weekend.

Zhang, a student in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, was in a three-way tie for first after the opening round at the HJGT Southeast Junior Challenge at 3-over-par with fellow GGGA students Thomas Yiny and Johnny Hsu.

It was the same spot Zhang, of China, was in last Sunday at the HJGT Amelia Island Junior Challenge before he fired a 4-under 68 to claim the win.

Conditions were much different in this final round as the entire field battled blustery winds and rain for much of the day. Scoring was high across all divisions, but Zhang emerged victorious again for wins in back-to-back weekends.

Zhang, a senior at GGGA, closed with a 78 for a one-shot victory as GGGA students swept the top five at Bonaventure Country Club in Weston, FL.

GGGA student Yash Majmudar, of Singapore, tied for second with Johnny Hsu of Taiwan. Thomas Yint, of Myanmar, took fourth, while Adam Friedman, of the USA and Taiga Fujii of Japan tied for fifth in the Boys 15-18 Division.

In the Boys 11-14 Division, GGGA student Pyae Phyo Thu was battling for win of his own after opening with a 76 and would go on to finish second for his best finish since becoming a student at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy.
