Early Signing Month for College Golf Athletes

November is an Important Month for College Golf!

It’s Early Signing Month!

There are always questions about what Early Signing period is, what the National Letter of Intent means and the information that surrounds it. Here’s some information to help shed light on what all the fuss is about!

What is the NLI?

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution. With the agreement, a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters) and the institution agrees to provide athletic financial aid for at least one academic year (two semesters). If a student-athlete does not fulfill the NLI agreement, he or she has to serve one year in residence (full-time, two semesters) at the next NLI member institution and lose one season of competition in all sports.

What are the signing dates for Prospective Student-Athletes Enrolling in 2018?

All sports, including golf, can have an early signing period from November 8-15, 2017. The regular signing period is from April 11 – August 1, 2018.

Who are the Prospects Who May Sign an NLI? What needs to accompany the NLI?

In order to sign an NLI, a high school or preparatory school prospective student-athlete must first register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and complete the amateur certification request. A prospective student-athlete must be one who will be attending a four-year institution in the fall for the first time as a full-time student. Any NLI must be accompanied by a financial aid agreement from the institution.

Don’t worry if you haven’t signed during the Early signing period. Recruiting continues until the day school starts in August! In fall 2017, GGGA college assistance program worked to help students commit to colleges and universities all over the country.  Where are you going this year?
